| Description | Streptococcus mutans (Streptococcus mutans) is known for its ability to cause the appearance of carious cavities in the teeth. These bacteria live in the dental plaque formed by them and synthesize the acid destroying the tooth enamel.Usually this is all limited, but in some cases, for example, after performing a surgical procedure in the mouth or after a particularly diligent tooth floss, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream.
